Tale ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and safeguard information in connection with our synchronized movie-watching service, in compliance with applicable data protection regulations including GDPR and CCPA.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide when creating an account, such as your username and email address. When you use Tale, we also collect session metadata — such as room creation events and connection quality — to operate and improve the service. This data does not include the content of the media you watch.
We also collect minimal, anonymised usage statistics (feature interactions, error rates) to understand how the product is used and guide improvements. None of this data identifies you personally.
Your Media & Room Privacy
Tale does not upload, store, or have access to the video files you play. Media is streamed from your own source, and room connections are established peer-to-peer with end-to-end encryption where technically feasible. Voice chat audio is transmitted in real time and is never recorded or retained by us.
How We Use Your Information
Your account information is used solely to provide and personalise the Tale service — including room management, sync state, and sending transactional emails such as account confirmations. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell or rent personal information to any third party.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures — including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage at rest, and strict access controls — to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Room invite links use cryptographically random tokens to prevent guessing.
Third-Party Services
We engage trusted third-party providers for infrastructure and analytics. Each provider is bound by a data-processing agreement and is not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. We do not embed advertising networks or cross-site tracking scripts.
Cookies & Analytics
We use strictly necessary session cookies for authentication. Analytics data is collected in aggregate form only — no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting. You may disable cookies in your browser at any time without affecting core functionality.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We respond within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA) as applicable.
Data Retention
Account data is retained for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Tale is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us and we will delete the information promptly.
